The UWB is hosting an event on Monday, November 10th at 6:00pm in UW1-103. York Bauer, a current Zango and former Microsoft executive, is speaking on How to Survive and Thrive in the World of Free, Ad-supported Internet. The social meeting on November 13th will be held at Sai Mai Thai at 7:30pm. Come socialize with entrepreneurial students and alumni. More details on the restaurant at: http://www.saimairestaurant.com.

On November 20th UWB student Chris Geddes will present UW2 205 his business idea to the network. Below is Chris’s description of his plan:
“A case study was preformed at Redmond High School over the years 2006 and 2007 where students worked with teachers to reduce overall carbon output by 72 tons and saved an estimated $7,500 in energy usage inside of a single year. Currently, the RHS campaign labeled “The Cool School Challenge” led by my old AP Environmental Science teacher, Mike Town, is hoping to double those numbers by the end of this school year. These results were achieved in a state-of-the-art High School constructed in 2003. Some schools around the nation have caught on to this same idea of reducing their carbon footprint and studies have shown averages of 10% energy reductions solely by changing energy usage habits and raising environmental awareness. I plan to privatize and add to this proven concept to allow schools to take their hands off the energy reduction process while we prepare, audit, monitor, educate, and retrofit schools to produce these same (and potentially better) results in areas where environmental consciousness is not on the list of priorities. We guarantee the energy reduction and get paid based on the results.”

There is no meeting on November 27th in observance of Thanksgiving day.

Listen Up: Music Night!

November 4th, 2008

The Entrepreneurship Network will be discussing the music industry on November 6th at 7:30pm on the UWB campus in UW2 205. First UWB student, Joe Crotty, will present his business idea for an online music community. Next, Brent Barnett of SoundCrank will present an update on the iTunes SoundCrank plug-in. Center for Student Entrepreneurship advisers will be in attendance including: Richard Jacroux (CFO, CW United) and George Fletcher (Co-Founder, Parity Software).

The Game Design Retreat is November 7th - 9th in Indianola, Washington. The registration fee is $125 for professionals and $75 for students. Eco Cycle + UWB

October 13th, 2008

On October 23rd at 7:30pm, Cisco Zapata, UWB MBA Class of ‘08, will present to the Entrepreneurship Network, the Green Entrepreneurship at UWB club, and alumni on campus in UW2 205.

Zapata Brothers, Cisco’s company, is a new business venture that will produce the Eco Cycle. The Eco Cycle is a bicycle that will be produced in the USA from recycled aluminum alloy. This is the team that took first place at last Spring’s UWB Student Entrepreneurship Competition. Cisco will be presenting the current status of the Zapata Brothers venture.

Center for Student Entrepreneurship advisers will be in attendance including: Richard Jacroux (CFO, CW United) and George Fletcher (Co-Founder, Parity Software).

Come meet Cisco, CSE advisors, alumni, and fellow students while learning about a new green venture.

Upcoming Events for October

Thanks everyone for helping kick off the year with a great meeting last Thursday! Here are some events that are coming up soon:

Oct 6th: Week of Welcome at UWB - The Network will have a booth set up in the Commons of UWB publicizing our group from 3:30-6:30pm. Please stop by to ask any questions that you have or lend a hand running the booth if you can.

Oct 9th: Sai Mai Thai food- Join the Network for one of our unofficial social events! Eat dinner (not provided by the club) or have drinks (not provided by the club) and socialize with entrepreneurial students and alumni. We are meeting at 7:30pm. Oct 16th: Homecoming/ Spirit Week - The Network is hosting a happy hour event for the UWB Spirit Week. Join us for dinner (not provided by the club) and drinks (not provided by the club) as well as networking at Canyons (22010 17th Ave SE) in Bothell at 7:30pm. Oct 23rd: Meeting at UWB - The second regular club meeting will be held in UW2 - 205 starting at 7:30pm. Cisco Zapata will be on campus giving an update on his award-winning Eco Cycle product.

Entrepreneurship Network - First Meeting

September 30th, 2008

The new school year at UWB has started and it is time for the first meeting of the UWB Entrepreneurship Network! Join us on Thursday, October 2nd from 7:30 to 9:30pm on the UWB campus in UW2 205 for pizza and networking with entrepreneurial students and alumni. Learn more about the upcoming club events for the year and meet new people while munching on pizza.

If you are planning to attend the meeting on Thursday or are thinking about attending the meeting, please respond to this email or send an email to mnfloyd@u.washington.edu. An accurate head count for food is greatly appreciated. Parking on the UWB campus is currently $3 per visit. Security rarely checks vehicles after 6pm, but park for free at your own risk. Carpooling is recommended for alumni. I hope to see you there.

Introduction

September 22nd, 2008

The Entrepreneurship Network is a University of Washington Bothell student club whose mission is to be:“A gathering of like-minded individuals that are dedicated to building businesses and entrepreneurial skills through a network of business relationships.” While members are attending the University, they work closely with the Center for Student Entrepreneurship, UWB faculty, dedicated UWB alumni, and industry leaders in business and technology to develop entrepreneurial skills. The Network is one of the oldest student clubs on the UWB campus and proudly lists many of the University’s most distinguished alumni as former club members. After graduation most members join the professional entrepreneurship group, SproutPoint.

The Network meets every other Thursday on the UWB campus. The first meeting of the month features a guest speaker from the local community and an open workshop to discuss student members’ business plans and ideas with successful entrepreneurs. The second meeting of the month is an opportunity for networking within the club, business case discussion, creative thinking exercises, and career advice from alumni. In addition to meetings the Network co-hosts several special events, speakers, and retreats throughout the year.
